Luis Tejeda, 17, of Lynn, was found by divers around 7 p.m. near Shannon Beach.

Luis was swimming with a group of friends about 100 yards offshore and outside the swim zone, state police said. At some point, one of the other swimmers noticed the teenager hadn't resurfaced.

There are no lifeguards on duty there after 6 p.m., police said.

A GoFundMe for his family has raised more than $9,000 in two days. The fundraiser was created by Luis' uncle who said the support would "help make his passing a little bit easier."

Several of the donors noted Luis' smile and the joy he brought everywhere he went.

"I am absolutely devastated to hear this news," Angelisa Cole posted along with her $100 donation. "Luis was an amazing student. The sweetest boy with the most beautiful smile. He will be greatly missed."
